Ancestral Threads: Tracing the Molecular Phylogeny of Functional Proteins

By reconstructing ancestral protein sequences and simulating their evolutionary trajectories, this project aims to understand how modern protein functions emerged. We will analyze phylogenetic trees to identify conserved motifs critical for survival, helping to predict how proteins might mutate in the future (e.g., viral evolution) and how we can engineer proteins with "ancient" stability properties.
